2008 Performing Arts Youth Bursary
Samuel Robb - 2008 Performing Arts Bursary WinnerSamuel Robb

The Events Centre is pleased to announce the winner of The Events Centre 2008 Youth Bursary Award, Samuel Robb.  Samuel has been selected as the winner of The Events Centre 2008 Youth Bursary Award due to his outstanding academic and musical achievements.

Samuel RobbThe Peachester resident, and recent Beerwah State High School Grade 12 graduate, has been selected to receive the bursary ahead of other applicants by a panel of judges.  Joan Benson OAM, Director Eastern Region, Queensland Arts Council & panel judge explains the decision to award the bursary to Samuel.

“We are delighted to announce and award Samuel with The Events Centre 2008 Youth Bursary.  Samuel has a wealth of musical experience for someone of such a young age – not just in amateur theatre, but also in professional ranks.  He has demonstrated not only amazing talent, but also a dedication to learning his craft.  Another admirable trait is that Samuel has continually sought to develop his skills and academic knowledge and this has culminated in him being accepted to perform as part of the Queensland Youth Orchestra Stage Band for 2008 and his acceptance into The Queensland Conservatorium of Music to study a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz Trumpet Performance.”

The Bursary will provide Samuel with a cheque for $2500 to help ease the financial burden of first-year study.

General Manager of The Events Centre, Mr Destry Puia said, “The bursary is awarded on an annual basis, and is designed to foster the development of young local talent by contributing to the cost of HECS fees for a student studying in a full-time accredited tertiary level course in the Performing Arts field.  We are delighted to award the bursary to Samuel – as his experience & education are extremely impressive for someone his age.  Hopefully we will see him back performing with a prestigious orchestra sometime soon.”
